Boss Babies Who Never Grow Up! Pets: love with responsibility and commitment

Boss Babies Who Never Grow Up! Pets: Love with Responsibility and Commitment | Medium

Are you familiar with a movie called Boss Baby about corporate manufactured babies who drink secret baby formula to gain intelligence yet remain as babies?

I think my bossy beagle is one of them!

He is blessed with cuteness unparalleled and wants tender love and care 24/7 and would fall over your feet hankering for a generous belly rub every time he sees you.

These guys are cuteness overload and have a capacity for whining their way into everything they want and into every space they want to get into. They are tiny bundles of joy with bottomless pit for a tummy.

NO, I AM NOT EXAGERRATING!

You bring out anything remotely edible in the household, these super sniffer hounds will magically materialise before you and they will look into your soul begging for a taste. Their innocent stare will knock down all your defenses and you will hand them whatever they want. No matter what the size of the treat is, it will be gobbled up before two shakes of a lamb’s tail as these cuddle monsters lack a system for elaborate chewing. Sometimes, one wonders if they sniff the food directly into their tummies.

My bossy 3-year-old beagle is named Mishko and other beagle parents have informed me that these guys tend to mellow down once they turn four. My beagle is as such very well-behaved contrary to the popular opinion about them. He is super intelligent and senses out emotions and moods and behaves accordingly. He even takes permission before waking us up in the morning, i.e., if we as much as look into his direction and smile, he will run into us at the speed of light.

He doesn’t touch anything that doesn’t belong to him and sleeps all day unless he is called, required or if he finds something interesting enough to pique his curiosity. He loves to play with nice people and growls at anyone who insults his intelligence and disrespects him. He is too smart to do menial tasks without reward and has a mind of his own. He remembers people who are good to him and loves them wholeheartedly. He instinctively knows if you are feeling sad and cuddles up to you if you want company. He is as his name suggests ‘God’s ideal gift’ in Russian. My daughter had allergy issues before, but Mishko cured that for her somehow.

Although, these beautiful creatures make our lives better, many people are not aware of the tremendous amount of care these wonderful beings require.

Just like babies and children, they need love, time and attention. They have inclinations, tendencies and requirements unique to their breed and personalities. One cannot keep them as props to satisfy one’s whims and fancies. They are not genies who present themselves only when you beckon. These babies will be part of your family and need total commitment from each member. They are not wild animals who can survive on their own. They are your companions and member of your pack.

After Mishko joined us, we haven’t taken a flight together as family as we don’t want him to be traumatized in the airplane. We travel by road everywhere and Mishko has the entire backseat reserved for him. He cannot do without a window seat!

They also have their own language, and we need to learn that to communicate and read their thoughts. Of course, there can be misunderstandings as with any form of communication. We need to be patient and kind if we decide to adopt them into our lives. I wish and hope that people adopt pets into their lives only if they are willingly to commit themselves to these babies for the entirety of their lifetime.

What’s Love Got to Do with It? Is being in love more about yourself than the other person?

What’s Love Got to Do with It?. Is being in love more about yourself… | by Anu maheshwari | English Vinglish | Mar, 2025 | Medium

Have you ever been in love or are you in love? It is said to be the most wonderfully uplifting emotion.

Yesterday, I was listening to a friend of mind going on and on about the expectations she had from her boyfriend who she calls the ‘love’ of her life…I asked her why she had so many expectations from this person. Her answer was, “why should I continue to love him if he can’t make me happy?”.

I was stumped, confused, and didn’t know what to say. She is my friend, and I will always be supportive but the feeling she has for her boyfriend…can it be called ‘Love’?

Are we using this word correctly?

Does the emotion of love have anything to do with the other person? Isn’t it something you feel inside you? Can you expect a person to change who they are for you or agree with you all the time? Why do we expect the other person to go over the mountains and catch the moon and the stars? Wouldn’t it be more liberating to be happy with each other regardless?

There is a need for a DISCLAIMER here for the married ones- I am not talking about daily chores and contribution to the household responsibility in a marriage. That’s totally different! There are things you got to do when you got to do! There are promises and contracts involved. It is legal and binding 😊.

I am talking about the feeling of being in love which so many of the great poets and authors have tried to capture in words.

My favourite quote on love is from Thomas Hardy, Tess of the D’Urbervilles. It is the one which makes me smile each time I read it.

“Having begun to love you, I love you for ever — in all changes, in all disgraces, because you are yourself.”

Some have described love as something so alive that it makes them lose their sanity. For them love is all consuming and one has no control over anything anymore. Like Homer in Iliad says,

…There is the heat of Love, the pulsing rush of Longing, the lover’s whisper, irresistible — magic to make the sanest man go mad.”

On the other hand, we have a more magically real Gabriel García Márquez who feels,

“It’s enough for me to be sure that you and I exist at this moment.”

And like Leo Tolstoy holds in Anne Karenina,

“I’ve always loved you, and when you love someone, you love the whole person, just as he or she is, and not as you would like them to be.”

Whatever said and done, the whole world wants to be in love! No matter what they go through for love, I have not come across anyone who says they don’t want to be in love.

“It is better to love wisely, no doubt: but to love foolishly is better than not to be able to love at all.”

― William Makepeace Thackeray, Vanity Fair

To be honest, I feel the vast majority wants someone to be in love with them. They want to be the object of affection and passion. They equate being in love with loss of power in a relationship. They want to be worshipped and put on a pedestal and be treated with awe and admiration. And then, when the awe and admiration wane off, all that’s left is emptiness.

Is that really love or just our own aspiration, our want and desire? Does it have anything to do with love?

Is that why emotions in unrequited love never wane off? We free the other person completely and the feeling stays inside us, making us warm and fuzzy forever.

Or is this why when you are away from your love for far too long …the seemingly unending separation…memories build up, aches heighten your senses, and a familiar melody, a tune that resonates deep translate into words soon…

I waited for you in earnest…

Stories I read, tales I spun in my dreams,

The love I felt growing each day in anticipation…

The day my eyes fell upon you; I knew…

Like a moth that flies towards the flame,

The snowflake that falls on your fingertips for warmth alone,

I forgot the world around

I leapt for you with all I had

Pure joy lifting me up, raising me above silly ruses…

Against aches that held me ransom to worldly values

All the love…only love…

Bliss… love… if this is what it is

Little the rest matters,

I will shine bright as the fading star that leaves the sky forlorn

again, and again…

to set my eyes upon true love.

Whatever. What do I know, anyway. Only as far as I know…

Do you have any ideas on love?

What’s your favourite quote on love?

March is to celebrate women in all their glory. Everywhere, women find reasons to come together and celebrate their being. A day is dedicated exclusively to either champion their cause or to brush it under the carpet in the guise of all the pomp and show.

Whatever said and done, we have a day!

I shall share a poem I wrote for a Woman’s Day event.

Women Rewriting Hi(s)tory

The woman rises to a thundering applause,

whenever, wherever, she plays a part.

of mother, daughter, sister, wife, and friend.

Today we can march the words to our own tune

and stand to praise her in unison,

for being a woman in her own right.

To celebrate the pillar of strength in the toughest of times,

the embodiment of serenity when all hell is let loose,

the sea of wisdom always within the reach,

the infinite abilities in one….

Let us come together to rejoice in

the pure and the sublime consciousness of the womankind.

Pay homage to the best in all of us

and rewrite hi(s)tory with our own!

In this journey forward, we must not forget to celebrate those men who walk with us to support us in our journey, the men in our lives who have understood and let us be, who have extended a shoulder to cry on without judgement, who have fought for us at the cost of their own mind and body, those who have suffered with us, and many more whose stories we need to listen and know.

Men and women healing together through sharing their pain and communication
Men and Women Must Heal Together. AI image created by Author using Co-Pilot

I would like thank all the fathers who raise their children to be themselves and treat their mothers with respect and love, leading by example and contributing equally in the household; all the husbands who stay behind in the shadows taking care of everything; all the brothers who encourage their sisters to smash all patriarchal norms; all the male friends who don’t parrot “men and women can’t be friends” and countless brave men on the streets who watch out for women and prevent them from being harassed.

Women are not alone. We cannot move ahead without exorcising the ghosts of our past and present. We need to confront and heal together and take everyone forward. There is no victory in marching alone.

Men can’t be left behind stewing in the patriarchal pot of their past mistakes and traumas. We need to heal men, who like the Greek Titan Atlas, were forced to carry the financial and emotional burden of masculinity thrust on their backs. We need to let our girls and boys grow up together without the judgment and preconceived notions of gender imposed upon them.

Let us all be!

Let us march together, empower each other and heal together.

Sometimes Rant is All We Can! Yes, We Can! A Reflex Response to the Endless Lies of the Wizard of Deception

This is so outrageous; it borders on unbridled delusion! It is like someone has put a mouthpiece on every nightmarish scenario we can envisage for our world today!

I don’t know if there would come a day when one doesn’t have to wake up to another nauseating nugget of stupidity coming out of the Moron in Chief. His stupidity would have been fine on its own but now it has taken global proportions! It bothers one and all. We don’t have an insurance cover for this!

Run, we can but where?

For starters, he thinks Greenland is some candy he can snatch to satisfy his craving! He whines petulantly, “we need it”!

Greenland has its own people (56,800, as of 2024) and way of life. There are human beings living there completely capable of deciding for themselves and this ‘cruel joke on human intelligence’ thinks he can just have Greenland!

What is wrong with this guy? Apparently, everything!

Is he a democratically elected head of a sovereign nation? He acts more like Kim Jong Un than Kim Jong Un himself. He reminds one of Mike Myers as both Austin Powers and Dr Evil!

I wonder what he reads. Or whether he reads anything at all. I doubt if he knows anything beyond the 26 letters of the language, he butchers on a daily basis with linguistic equivalence of a Texas Chainsaw Massacre!

Does he live inside a self-inflated bubble of grandeur with Trumpa Loompas singing his praise instead of the real Oompa Loompas advising him wisely.

Oompa Loompa doompadee doo
I’ve got another puzzle for you
Oompa Loompa doompadah dee
If you are wise you’ll listen to me

What do you get from a glut of TV?
A pain in the neck and an IQ of three
Why don’t you try simply reading a book?
Or could you just not bear to look?

I don’t like my language laced with swear words. This caricaturist’s delight however tingles an urge for name-calling. I realise it is not a very productive and conducive thing to engage in, but it does nurse a grievance when Thanos Trump is singlehandedly dismantling every notion of propriety, justice, and right to self-determination.

His casual tone while talking about literally annexing another nation ‘one way or the otherWell I think it will happen, I’m just thinking, I didn’t give it much thought…, can make anyone go bonkers with frustration. Even the Canadians are calling him ‘crazy’ and that must amount to something, doesn’t it?

Emperor Trumpentine also wants to ‘reclaim’ Panama! This is not just snatching a candy; he actually insists that the candy was his originally! The President of Panama has managed to retort, “I reject in the name of Panama and all Panamanians this new affront to the truth and our dignity as a nation,”. Everybody has had enough! The Iranians have gone as far as to challenge this Orange Marvel, “Do Whatever the Hell You Want”.

I don't know what the Democrats are eating these days. I believe something that glues their mouth shut!

Trump has also declared that his win is a resounding mandate for him to do as he pleases. Somehow the questionable matter between his ears has failed to register that the mandate is to govern a democratic country democratically with adherence to laws and regulations. Instead, he feels justified to unleash a witch hunt on his political adversaries who he openly refers to as “scum”.

Do we even need to lie when it comes to this guy?

Why would anybody need fake news when this Fake New Vader says and does enough things to be the news himself?

“They’re not legitimate people. They’re horrible people, they’re scum. And you have to know that … And I believe that CNN and [MSNBC] who literally write 97.6% bad about me, are political arms of the Democrat Party. And in my opinion, they’re really corrupt and they’re illegal. What they do is illegal,”.

Enough is Enough” like Greenlanders, we all want to shout!

The Pattaya Experience; Fun and Then Some Caution!

On day two, we took a grab taxi to Pattaya /pʰát.tʰā.jāː/. It takes about two hours from Bangkok. After a super comfortable ride on the expressway, we reached our AirBNB condo on the 9th floor of one of the skyscrapers lining the Jomtien beachside. Our gracious host was really cool and had left us perfect instructions for an easy check-in. The condo had everything we needed to chill out and relax. My daughter was already glued to the infinity pool on the 6th floor. The place had a mix of local, Chinese, European and American families staying in. It was a gated complex with all basic and luxury amenities including a 24/7 café.

Beaches, Sanctuaries, Theme parks, Koh larn Island trips… Pattaya had lot to offer! But I will start with a word of caution!

I feel that Pattaya, though it looked like a sleepy town as you walk next to the beach, is not exactly for the solo traveler. Bangkok was packed with the hustle and bustle of life and activities. But Pattaya was eerily silent and devoid of the mundane hum of life and had too many foreigners who didn’t exactly look like they were in search of one true love! We met people who were in Pattaya just for the Walking Street!

I mean no judgements…! One needs companionship and love should be celebrated and embraced in all its million forms but not when it is exploitative and forced. Majority of the Thai BL love stories deal with the emotional scars that the LGBTQIA carry but they are remarkably silent when it comes to the exploitation and discrimination they face as a result of over commercialization of pink tourism. The rainbow painted walls that looked genuine and in sync in Bangkok, looked unequivocally out of place in Pattaya....

The Songthaew or the Baht Bus is a good way to travel in Pattaya when in groups. It is very economical as they charge just 10 Baht per head for nearby destinations, and they are quite frequent on the beach roads.  Unfortunately, we also had a bad experience with a Songthaew driver who demanded ridiculous amount for a short ride after initially agreeing to a rate. But staying calm and not arguing helped. We just checked the grab rates for the same ride and showed him. He thought he could shout and intimidate us. We just waited for his tirade to end and then gave him what was reasonable. We had safety in numbers, but if you are alone, then please stick to grab taxis and call the police if trouble still courts you. This is not to complain, it is just a word of caution, and I am expressing what I felt. India is familiar to me; I exercise caution and follow my instinct, because I know what all can go wrong. But when you are in a foreign environment, sometimes one tends to throw caution to the wind, even when all the brains cells scream danger in chorus!

Moving on to the good parts now, Pattaya has a lot to offer! We started early with a morning trip to the Sanctuary of Truth Museum, a work in progress. One must buy a ticket and be part of the guided tour to actually understand the beautiful architecture of the place which looks like a wooden castle with an aura of a temple. It stages a perfect blend of major eastern belief systems, especially the cycle of life and features various mythological figures in its design from the Hindu trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva and then the Ganesha to the Buddhist Guanyin and various celestial nymphs and representation of the four elements. The museum is entirely made of wood and every single wall, frame and surface is adorned with some carving and follows the general theme of the dichotomy between the good and the evil. This place stands right on the seashore and looks out of this world. There is nothing like it anywhere! One must not miss this mesmerizing methodical marvel of human creativity and endeavour.

Horses at the entrance of the Sanctuary

We then headed to Mini Siam, a miniature park with all the famous structures in Thailand and the world. This place is also beautifully maintained and quite scenic with artificial waterfalls, lakes and bridges in between.

Just adjacent to the theme park, is Wat Phra Yai, the iconic Buddhist Temple of Pattaya with a towering gold painted Buddha Statue and a staircase guarded by seven-headed golden naga serpents on both sides. Although, the stairs will look daunting from the entrance, but they are flat and effortless to climb. The panoramic view from the top covers the Kohlarn Islands and the Pattaya beaches. It was not crowded, and we could enjoy the peaceful space and view uninterrupted by reel enthusiasts and selfie sticks!

The Dolphinarium needs prior booking for the main attraction, that is the Dolphin show. One must plan and book in advance to enjoy the grand show. All the other places also offer online booking and sometimes we get better deals online and can avoid the queue.

The Pattaya Floating Market, I feel, is somewhat a tourist trap!  It is good for a walk about and has some scenic spots created for photo- ops. Everything was over-priced, including the ticket and the boat ride. Also, the glamourous drag queens very politely ask you to pose for a picture with them but then turn a shade sneaky and demand a hefty tip right away! I felt bad for them that they had to resort to such means to earn a living. They could have been provided a booth of their own for this activity.  So, if you must experience the charm of a floating market, you can check it out. For us there was literally no good way to come back from the market since it is on the expressway. The grab taxis cancelled rides and the songthaews were charging 300 baht for a 70-baht ride. We were stranded outside for a good 45 minutes. Thankfully, there was a 7 Eleven nearby to replenish our energy and to pass time. We finally managed a grab-taxi. It would be better to hire a taxi for 2 hours and check this place out.

One of the major charms of Pattaya is also a day trip to Koh Larn Islands. One must plan to reach the jetty in the morning hours to be able to catch a 45-minute ride to the white sandy beaches of the Island. The boats heading to Koh larn Island dock at two different beach piers; Tawean and Na Ban. Tawean is known to be less crowded and offers better views, but the last trip to Tawean is at 3 pm and the last trip back from there is at 5 pm. So, it is better to head to Koh Lan in the morning itself and then come back by afternoon on the last ferry. We can spend the calm morning hours on the beautiful sandy beaches and come back to Pattaya for lunch.

Bangkok Evenings!

“Bangkok is safe. If you see anybody wearing camouflage holding a machete, don’t be scared. They sell coconuts”. Bobby Lee

Bangkok comes alive at night! I wanted to hum ‘One night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble, not much between despair and ecstasy…’ I am not a fan of the lyrics though…But I am sure all the 80s and 90s kids recognize the tune.

There are lights everywhere and all the night markets beckon you with their exotic wares and dares. Yes! Lot of ‘dares’ also, as we could indulge in many adventurous things which are not readily available, especially in India.

However, except for the de rigueur sniffing of the famously polarizing durian, I couldn’t muster enough intestinal fortitude to try out the deep-fried and crispy scorpions, crocodiles, wigglers, etc, on display. There was no question about their edibility, but I was seriously lacking pluck and spunk at that moment. On the other hand, I couldn’t smell anything stinky about the Durian. Au contraire, it smelled sweet to me. I was prepared for an assault on my olfactory nerves but nothing! zilch! Perhaps those ladies cleaned it with something to remove the smell. I don't know.

The evenings were exclusively for the younger lot to be out. Our seniors/ preferred their rest and recuperation time, and we chose to head out for a nice walk from the old town to the popular China town. It was about 2 kms straight eastwards. One could also take the metro from SamYot to Wat Mankon on the MRT blue line and then walk around.

There is also the famous Khao San Market in the old city. It is a happening area which comes alive and screaming at night and it was only a kilometre away. We had already checked out the Giant Swing, the Buddhist temples nearby, the democracy monument and other shrines on our evening walk on the previous day. Evenings are windy and very pleasant to walk around in May.

China town, to be honest, was a bit of a disappointment in the middle of May. I think it is much better to go there around Chinese festivals when it comes alive with the lantern decors and banners. What we got to see was just the remnants of Songkran décor. I think the local people were being wise with their electricity usage. There was hardly any Las Vegas type lighting which you see in photos. It was all very subdued. Even the picturesque canals on the way, like the Ong Ang were dim and lifeless. Nevertheless, it was charming and quaint and minus the crowd we could enjoy the stroll.

I wanted to try ‘mooncakes’ but couldn’t find them anywhere. We saw ‘bird’s nest soup’ everywhere on the menu boards and many of the typical Chinese ingredients for sale. Many shady massage parlours on the way but it was fairly safe, if you stick to the main roads. Instead of being lured with cheap foot massages and pedicures, it is better to walk on and do not even think of hiring a tuk-tuk! We were told by a kind Thai gentleman that tuk-tuks parked there are not for the locals, it is for the foreigners who could be duped or those who could splurge. While the metro would cost you 30 Baht, the tuk tuk guy would ask for 300 baht straightaway! It doesn’t even make sense! It is just WILD! preposterous!

There is also the Chatuchak Weekend Market which is number one for local market shopping. There are also markets inside most of the big metro stations where one can get everything from food, drinks, clothes and all the basics. Later on, when we moved places, we had a gala time shopping at the Phra Ram 9 station which was under a 5-storey fashion mall. It literally had everything!
