Let’s Celebrate Women and The Men Who March with Us: Feminism is to empower women and heal men

March is to celebrate women in all their glory. Everywhere, women find reasons to come together and celebrate their being. A day is dedicated exclusively to either champion their cause or to brush it under the carpet in the guise of all the pomp and show.
Whatever said and done, we have a day!
I shall share a poem I wrote for a Woman’s Day event.
Women Rewriting Hi(s)tory
The woman rises to a thundering applause,
whenever, wherever, she plays a part.
of mother, daughter, sister, wife, and friend.
Today we can march the words to our own tune
and stand to praise her in unison,
for being a woman in her own right.
To celebrate the pillar of strength in the toughest of times,
the embodiment of serenity when all hell is let loose,
the sea of wisdom always within the reach,
the infinite abilities in one….
Let us come together to rejoice in
the pure and the sublime consciousness of the womankind.
Pay homage to the best in all of us
and rewrite hi(s)tory with our own!
In this journey forward, we must not forget to celebrate those men who walk with us to support us in our journey, the men in our lives who have understood and let us be, who have extended a shoulder to cry on without judgement, who have fought for us at the cost of their own mind and body, those who have suffered with us, and many more whose stories we need to listen and know.
I would like thank all the fathers who raise their children to be themselves and treat their mothers with respect and love, leading by example and contributing equally in the household; all the husbands who stay behind in the shadows taking care of everything; all the brothers who encourage their sisters to smash all patriarchal norms; all the male friends who don’t parrot “men and women can’t be friends” and countless brave men on the streets who watch out for women and prevent them from being harassed.
Women are not alone. We cannot move ahead without exorcising the ghosts of our past and present. We need to confront and heal together and take everyone forward. There is no victory in marching alone.
Men can’t be left behind stewing in the patriarchal pot of their past mistakes and traumas. We need to heal men, who like the Greek Titan Atlas, were forced to carry the financial and emotional burden of masculinity thrust on their backs. We need to let our girls and boys grow up together without the judgment and preconceived notions of gender imposed upon them.
Let us all be!
Let us march together, empower each other and heal together.
